Located in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the Elmwood Park Zoo recently unveiled its state-of-the-art Welcome Center. This vibrant and engaging space embodies the zoo’s commitment to wildlife care and community connection. Our team was privileged to contribute to this project by designing several interactive experiences that reflect the core themes of Care, Conservation, and Connection.
We All Are Connected
These experiences feature touch screen displays placed alongside animal exhibits within the Welcome Center. Users can explore a variety of narratives related to each animal, categorized into four types: polls, quizzes, and photo or video stories. Each narrative is color-coded to reflect its alignment with one of the core themes: Care, Conservation, or Connection.

Treatment Room
The Treatment Room features large viewing windows that allow guests to observe the veterinary staff as they conduct exams and procedures in the surgical suite below. Overhead displays provide information about each procedure, including the patient’s name, species, and type of procedure, along with a live feed. Guests can engage by submitting questions to the docent and receive feedback in real-time.
Partners in Care
Partners in Care is an interactive experience designed to educate visitors about how the zoo staff cares for various species. Users choose a scenario with an animal, a dilemma, and a toolkit, then select the tool they think fits best.
Upon making their selection, users receive immediate feedback based on their choice, while the correct tool illuminates on the wall above. To ensure inclusivity, all of the interactive experiences feature bilingual support in both English and Spanish.
