Innovation Studio

UX Design + UI Design

The D.H. Hill Jr. Library at NC State University began an innovative initiative and approached Relative Scale to design and develop the "Showcasing Innovation" experience within their Innovation Studio. This space serves as a platform to exhibit the creative and innovative endeavors of NC State's students and faculty and host workshops focused on future-oriented thinking.

The integration of both digital and physical assets enhances this initiative, transcending a traditional digital-only experience. The Innovation Studio, in addition to its showcase function, serves as a dynamic and adaptable workspace. By allowing for the deactivation of projectors and the rearrangement of tables, the studio can be configured as necessary, underscoring its versatility.

The non-touch, gesture-based interactive experience utilizes depth-sensing cameras and strategically positioned projectors above four designated areas within the Innovation Studio. This approach aligned well with the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, providing a safe environment for users.

The student or faculty work is projected onto a table's surface, accompanied by interactive and supportive user interfaces, these are referred to as stations. Stations can be configured to occupy either half a table (1x) or an entire table (2x). With a total of 16 tables, the space allows for up to 32 unique experiences concurrently.
