A Bear's Journey

Art Direction + Illustration + UI Design

The E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center connected with Relative Scale to develop a touchscreen interactive experience where guests step into the role of a black bear navigating the diverse habitats of Northwest Florida. This project was completed within a tight eight-week timeline, with half of that dedicated to the design phase.

Given the tight timeline, we chose a design with simple, organic shapes and rich textures to create visual depth, balancing playfulness and seriousness for a diverse audience. Natural, earthy tones authentically represented the habitats, while vibrant accents distinguished the user interface.

Participants journey through all four seasons, encountering two distinct scenarios at each stage. Their goal is to make choices that best support the bear's survival. Based on their selections, the hunger meter dynamically adjusts, objects within the scene come to life, and guests receive insightful feedback and educational content.
